Biography

Zeynab Wandati is an award-winning science journalist based in Nairobi. She’s currently the Science and Technology Editor at Nation Media Group’s NTV Kenya. Ms. Wandati runs an innovative weekly TV feature, Food Friday, which focuses on all aspects of food security from the farm to the plate. The Food Friday series has directed public attention towards food security issues in Kenya and throughout the African continent.

Her reporting spans a wide range of topics from good agricultural practices to climate challenges, reflecting a strong capacity to interact with a variety of actors including farmers, teachers and scientists. Her impartial coverage presents
solutions to complex issues and has raised awareness of hunger and malnutrition among a broader general public. Because of her coverage of agricultural sciences, she won the 2016/17 FAO’s A. H. Boerma Award, jointly with another journalist.

In 2017, she won a continental award from the Africa Conservation Tillage Network for her reporting on conservation agriculture in Africa. Zeynab specializes in science reporting with a keen interest in agriculture, the environment and climate change. Zeynab is also a board member of the Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (MESHA), an association of science journalists and communicators in East Africa. She joined the Nation Media Group in
2011 as a business reporter, rising to become Business Editor, a position she held before her current appointment as science editor, a position she has held for two years.
